Day 00: New York City

At the airport. Here's how it started: around April I felt an itch. I couldn't figure out what was causing it, but one thing was clear -- I had to ride my bike across France. Who knows how these ideas appear, but it came and I liked it. It was so fun to think and talk about -- the wine, the food, the passion. I didn't worry about any of the logistics, but day dreamed and talked to everyone about it. Then it happened. I met Patrick who was riding his bike across the US. He grabbed me a pen and paper and said he'd tell me everything I needed to know. Infact, he had a friend Greg who had ridden across France with his dad. Patrick called Greg, and after questions such as is she cute and how old is she, Greg asked "What's her purpose?" I paused and replied "soul searching." Worried, Greg asked Patrick if I needed "to find myself." He said "nah" .... But aren't we always finding ourselves?

So, after bike tour consulting with Patrick and Greg, shopping with Daniel and Jorge at REI, putting a rack on my racing bike with Frankie, getting a Garmin with Jeff, making reservations with Ellie, and running around NYC like crazy with Jay, I am ready. Of course, I'm also ready because of the love and support from my family and friends who chose to help instead of say no to a woman doing a solo 3-week bike trip in a foreign country.

Follow me on Eat, Ride, Love (FYI: spiritual part falls under all three). It's about passion, pleasure, compassion, and the self. It's also about wine, food, bikinis, pink lip stick, new friends, and kicking butt (I'll be riding about 10mph instead of 20 with all this gear, weighing in at 20lbs. Maybe War and Peace wasn't the appropriately sized book for the trip).

Here I am in Harlem with my bike, 2 bags, and dress I'll be wearing for the next three weeks. Mmmmm...... Next stop Paris!
